Birthday Resolutions...

It's my birthday! I turn 24 today. Does that count as mid-twenties? Does that mean I'm getting old? It sure doesn't feel like it...

I think today is a good day to evaluate my life, to look back at the last year and figure out where I want to go from here.

What did I achieve as a 23 year old? What were the highlights? Hmm...well to start with, I got married! It was definitely the best decision of my life. Marriage has been so good so far, and now I'm more in love with Daniel than ever. (For good reason...I'll show you guys my birthday present later.)

Other than that though, I can't say that I'm really in a different place this year than I was last year. I feel like I've been stuck in a rut for the last few months. I want to be growing and maturing, but it's just not happening.

So today, I'm making some changes! Where do I want to be in a year? Mostly, I would like to be healthy and in shape, both physically and spiritually. I want to be a morning person, who wakes up early every day (and loves doing it!) to go for a run and spend some quality time with the Lord. And as a result, I want to be full of joy and energy! I would like to run a marathon...or maybe just a 5K. I would like to be a prayer warrior, and be learning new things about God every day. That seems like a really good goal right?

But how can I get there? I think I need some practical guidelines to help me put this into place. I need to start small and work my way up!

Any ideas?

  1. 1. Healthy and in shape! that is forever my goal. At the beginning of this semester I was trying to get up early and go to the gym/go for a run, seeing as how that's really the only time I can consistently set aside for exercise. It went well for a good while, but then I got swamped and fell off...and now it's getting colder! I think one way I fall down, and that would be helpful for you, is not taking out my clothes beforehand. It seems really simple, but honestly, if I didn't have my clothes already picked out, some mornings that would have been all I needed to stay in bed, and sometimes it was!

    2. Prayer warrior - always a good thing! I know you already know about me and Elora's travelling prayer books. I love them! Just a small notebook to write really short - like 1-3 sentence prayers in. I think saying little prayers throughout the day will definitely help you get there :) And you could ask Sis. Hope about this too.

  2. That's a good idea about the clothes, especially now that its getting colder. I hate getting out of bed when its cold to go fumble around looking for something to wear. And I need to get rid of every excuse possible! haha

Elora was telling me about the prayer books. Do you find it helps?

  3. I do think it helps :) I love carrying it around and having the feeling that I can just bring it out and write a quick prayer whenever I want to. I suppose it would be ideal if I were praying more frequently during the day anyhow, but this makes it more intentional, and keeps my thoughts focused to what I'm writing down. And it just occurred to me that you could write prayers if ever you were bored somewhere and wanted to doodle! haha.
